Compilation of the kernel will not be explained here. Tutorials on the subject are easily found online via google. What will be analyzed here is what options for the kernel configuration would be best for SLS, and for Live linux CDs in general. Here we are using the kernel package for Fedora 3. Unfourtunately, the kernel source does not come with Fedora anymore; instructions on installing the kernel source (and also compiling kernel) can be found at http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-fc3.shtml#kernelsrc. The kernel version should be 2.6.9-1667 (the -1667 is a special thing for Fedora, not too sure on where it comes from, but the kernel source differs from a normal 2.6.9 kernel)
For my kernel configuration, you can find it the section called “Kernel .config (2.6.9-1667)”, or download it from https://sourceforge.net/projects/smallnixserver.
